015 - Scavenger hunt / kids walking trails / garden camping / creepy crawlies / bug detectives

Thursday is upon us, which means there is only one more day until the weekend. That seems to have lost some of the excitement it used to have since the pandemic hit, but you can at least look forward to a long lie. Well, maybe, if the kids allow you. Here is your daily dose of ideas from dad plus kids to help you get the most out of your day. Today's theme, go outdoors.

  1. Do a nature photo scavenger hunt. This is where you walk around the neighbourhood and take pictures of landmarks and aspects of nature and give them to the kids as clues. They then have to take their own photo of the same landmark or nature aspect. They hunt for your pictures.

  2. Stock up on maps, walking guides, any trail map you can find and let the kids pick one randomly. There is your walk or nature hunt for the day sorted, and it's a surprise for all of you.

  3. Let the kids have a garden campout with their siblings or friends. Not overnight, just in the day, teach them how to build a tent and the basics of outdoors survival right in the comfort of their back garden.

  4. Get out in the rain and see what creepy crawlies you can find. The kids might protest this one a bit, but there is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes. A pleasant walk in the rain is a great way to feel close to nature.

  5. Bug detectives, magnifying glasses ready. Put together a worksheet or print one off for free from edhelper.com.
